Meet the future of iOS interaction design - before its time. To-do apps are one a penny but Clear could well be a game changer. No buttons, no syncing, just touch.
At first I thought this was just a gimmicky product to get a software company some press. Although it probably is a bit of that, actually it could well be a glimpse into the future. At first I thought nobody is ever going to remember all the different gestures to perform each function. However when you think about actions we all do everyday, for instance the mouse. We all know you double click to open, single click to select, right click to open options, slow double click to rename. I presume when the mouse was first introduced it received the same criticism I’ve seen written about Clear.
The majority of iOS apps have been designed so they can be used with a mouse. Who says that is the best way for a human to interact with a touch screen mobile device? I genuinely can foresee this style of navigation and interactivity used with Clear widely adopted in years to come.
Personally I will be very interested to see how they cope with the education of users. I’m presuming a tutorial. If it were down to me I’d have an interactive tutorial. I’d walk the user through the gestures they will need. I’d have them create a list, add a task, mark the task as done and go back to list view. Let’s see how they opt to do it.
Clearly is expected to launch in the App Store early February so keep your eyes peeled for a release in the next few days. I’ll certainly be downloading and giving it a try.

I’m very excited to announce that we’ve officially launched Sherpaa.
Who it’s for: Currently it’s for tumblr’s employees. In the near future, we’ll be signing up other NYC-based companies.
Why: When you’re sick or hurt, figuring out exactly who and what you need and when you need it is difficult. You need an accessible, friendly doctor you can call and email 24/7 who will either solve the problem right then and there or guide you to the highest quality, health professionals with the best personalities who will provide exactly the care you need.
Our wonderful friends at tumblr are our first clients. And that means that all of tumblr’s employees can now email or call our doctors (or Guides as we call them) 24/7 when they have a health concern or question. Our Guides are well connected, in-the-know local doctors. Sometimes they can solve everything for you right away, and other times they’ll collaborate with other New York City specialists to arrange the most appropriate care for you. They make your health simple. And that’s our mission.
We’re starting slow. We’re focusing on working exclusively with tumblr for a while and will soon be signing up other NYC-based companies. If you’re interested in joining Sherpaa, please do let us know.
I’ve been quite busy for the past few months getting Sherpaa started. This is the next big phase of my life. And I’m super proud of it. It’s a service designed and built by us at The Future Well. We’re doing wonderful things and I’m a happy, happy guy.
I know absolutely zilch about the medical industry, nothing about being a doctor, & I am fortunate enough to not have many medical issues myself. However I’ve been following Jay Parkinson’s Tumblr for a quite some time & he is doing some amazing things. World changing things and it makes me jealous, inspired and motivated.
But yeah this is awesome and the website is gorgeous… had to add that in there.
